Lidl Travel which first entered the travel arena by selling Air Berlin flight vouchers at the checkouts as early as 2006 has now stopped it’s activity in the highly competitive UK travel industry.
Following the departure of Aldi Travel from the UK travel scene, the only remaining serious supermarket player in the travel industry is Asda Travel which continues to sell scheduled flights, hotel bookings and more.
Aldi Travel which lasted around a year has been shut down. Officially the Aldi Travel product is “under review”
A message on the old Aldi travel website reads :

Aldi Travel which was announced in late November 2008 started life in January 2009 (January is traditionally peak time for booking flights & holidays).
Margins in travel are very low – sometimes in the region of 1% due to heavy discounting which may have come as a bit of a shock to Aldi who are used to working with far higher margins on their food and non-food products.
